Ants Information:
Ants are social insects. Their highly organized colonies or nests which sometimes consist of millions of individual ants. Ants Colonies can occupy and use a wide area of land to support them. Ant colonies are sometimes described as superorganisms because the colony appears to operate as a single entity.
Types Of Ants:
1. The Worker Ants- The worker ants are the backbone of the entire colony. The worker ants are the ones that we see traveling back and forth in lines to forge for food and water for the other ants and queen. The worker ants make up most of the population of the ants colony and without the workers the colony would starve and eventually die. Workers can travel a very long distance and alos lift up to 10X their own body weight!
2. The Soilder Ants- The Soilder ants are the ant colonies main defence against predators. Soilders can also launch offensive campians on other ant colonies or termite colonies in search for food. If the ant's nest is disturbed the soilders are immediatly dispatched to the area to defend the colony at all costs. Some soilders stay behind in the queens chamber to protect her with thier lives. Soilders have much larger head than their worker ken and also have very large mandibles used for dismembering their enemy.
3. The Swarmer Ants (flying ants)- The Swarmer ants (or as most poeple know them, flying ants) are produced for one purpose only, to create new colonies or to expand the current colony. When an ant's nest gets to be a certain size the queen will produce these types of ants to expand the colony in a different area or make a new colony all together. These flying ants can be seen when the tempreture outside gets to be above 70-75 degrees F. They are very fragile and can be killed with almost any simple aerosol Insecticide that is labeled for ants.
4. The Queen Ants- The queen ants are the single most important ant in the entire colony. She is the main production line for creating new ants. She lays many, many eggs a day depending on the species of ant in question. Without the queen there would be no new ants and thus the colony would not last long at all after she is gone. The queen can reach an incrediable size (for an ant) making her immoblie, she will just sit and lay eggs all day every day. The workers tend to the new eggs made and clean her off. The soilders guard her with their lives becuase they know what importance she is to the colony.
