To locate ant trails:
First locate foraging ants and place a drop of InTice Sweet Ant Gel in front of an ant. When the ant makes contact, elongate the drop to 1/2 inch. Normally within 10-20 minutes, the ants will recruit more workers, forming a trail that can be followed to locate where ants are coming into the structure. Check other areas of the structure to determine if there are other entry points, potentially indicating more than one nest.
Baiting:
Bait ants close to their entry point(s) and along their trail(s). Long-term success will come from baiting each separate ant trail. To maximize feeding surface, apply bait in thin (1/8 inch wide) lines, one to two inches long. Use one to three lines per entry point or trail. After baiting, lightly blow on ants feeding at the pre-treat spot to disperse, and wipe up the bait with warm water. Replenish bait as needed. Clean up any remaining bait with warm water at the end of the baiting program. Results are enhanced if the same procedure is used to bait around the outside of the structure.
Non-drip formula:
InTice Sweet Ant Gel makes it easy to bait out of the way on vertical and horizontal surfaces such as the edges and tops of cupboards, along window frames and in corners where the wall and floor or ceiling meet. Some water marking may occur on unfinished surfaces. In the edible product areas of food handling establishments, other areas where food is commercially prepared or processed, and in food service areas, only place bait in cracks and crevices or covered bait stations and record the number and location of bait stations.
TIPS:
If you survey the outside of your home and find ants entering a certain point, they probably are living pretty close to that point (they prefer exterior walls and insulation restricts their movements). Exterior baiting is very important! If you use Intice ant bait close to where the ants live, they don't have to travel far to get the bait and they have more time share the household ant baits before they expire. The ants who want to share the candy delight you left on the table could be coming from anywhere, up to 100 feet away. That means that the ants you see streaming around the garage door, very likely are sending scouts to the kitchen to search for such treasures! You should bait inside, but don't neglect outside. It's where ants spend the majority of their time. It just seems like they are homebound.
To effectively bait ants, you need to make an effort to rinse soda cans and clean counters to eliminate things that compete with the bait. Also, because they are only going to be able to take a certain amount, follow label directions and don't over-bait.
